Making the announcement on Tuesday evening, Muhumuza said she was driven by faith in the potential of Uganda’s young people to shape the country’s future.
“Today, with deep conviction and faith in the power of young people to shape our country’s future, I officially declare my candidature for National Female Youth MP,” Muhumuza said.
Currently serving with the National Youth Council, Muhumuza brings years of experience in youth leadership and public policy. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business from Makerere University Business School (MUBS), where she was also named overall best student at Makerere University’s 72nd graduation ceremony in 2022.
She is now pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
Although she is a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Muhumuza clarified that her decision to run as an independent was not an act of rebellion against the party.
“I am not going against my party,” she said during an appearance on NBS TV. “I should not be denied an opportunity to represent the young people because I didn’t participate in the NRM primaries. In the end, it is the will of the people that matters.”
Muhumuza urged young Ugandans to exercise their civic right responsibly and resist the influence of money in politics.
“Your vote counts more than the money. Your vote will speak volumes about what will happen in the next five years,” she said, adding confidently, “It is possible to pull this off.”
Muhumuza’s leadership journey began during her time at Makerere, where she contested for Guild President, finishing third out of four candidates. She later served as Guild Minister for Gender at MUBS and currently holds the position of Vice President of the Uganda National Students Association (UNSA).
Her entry into the National Youth MP race is expected to add intensity to an already competitive contest as Uganda’s 2026 general elections draw closer.
