National Female Youth MP Race: Mercy Kanyesigye Nominated, Pledges Fight Against Youth Unemployment

Mercy Kanyesigye, one of the contenders for the position of National Female Youth Member of Parliament, was officially nominated yesterday ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Speaking shortly after her nomination, Kanyesigye pledged to be a strong voice for young people across the country, emphasizing that youth representation will be at the heart of her leadership.

“Programmes come targeting the youth. As the National Female Youth MP, I will make sure that the youth are always represented and their voices heard,” she said.

Kanyesigye outlined her priorities, which include advocating for improved sports infrastructure to nurture young talent, promoting youth skilling initiatives, and tackling the challenge of youth unemployment.

She reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that national development programmes meaningfully include young people, saying that empowering the youth is key to shaping Uganda’s future.
