{"id":1479,"date":"2025-10-22T09:16:20","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T09:16:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/youthtimes.news\/?p=1479"},"modified":"2025-10-22T09:16:20","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T09:16:20","slug":"national-female-youth-mp-race-heats-up-as-julia-muhumuza-declares-independent-bid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/youthtimes.news\/index.php\/2025\/10\/22\/national-female-youth-mp-race-heats-up-as-julia-muhumuza-declares-independent-bid\/","title":{"rendered":"National Female Youth MP Race Heats Up as Julia Muhumuza Declares Independent Bid"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-race-for-the-national-female-youth-member-of-parliament-has-gained-new-momentum-after-julia-muhumuza-declared-her-intention-to-contest-as-an-independent-candidate-pledging-to-champion-youth-inclusion-and-empowerment-in-national-decision-making\">The race for the National Female Youth Member of Parliament has gained new momentum after Julia Muhumuza declared her intention to contest as an independent candidate, pledging to champion youth inclusion and empowerment in national decision-making.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Making the announcement on Tuesday evening, Muhumuza said she was driven by faith in the potential of Uganda\u2019s young people to shape the country\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cToday, with deep conviction and faith in the power of young people to shape our country\u2019s future, I officially declare my candidature for National Female Youth MP,\u201d Muhumuza said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently serving with the National Youth Council, Muhumuza brings years of experience in youth leadership and public policy. She holds a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in International Business from Makerere University Business School (MUBS), where she was also named overall best student at Makerere University\u2019s 72nd graduation ceremony in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is now pursuing a Master\u2019s in Public Policy at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although she is a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Muhumuza clarified that her decision to run as an independent was not an act of rebellion against the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI am not going against my party,\u201d she said during an appearance on NBS TV. \u201cI should not be denied an opportunity to represent the young people because I didn\u2019t participate in the NRM primaries. In the end, it is the will of the people that matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Muhumuza urged young Ugandans to exercise their civic right responsibly and resist the influence of money in politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cYour vote counts more than the money. Your vote will speak volumes about what will happen in the next five years,\u201d she said, adding confidently, \u201cIt is possible to pull this off.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Muhumuza\u2019s leadership journey began during her time at Makerere, where she contested for Guild President, finishing third out of four candidates.
