{"id":1524,"date":"2025-11-13T19:33:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T19:33:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/youthtimes.news\/?p=1524"},"modified":"2025-11-13T19:33:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T19:33:17","slug":"kampala-international-university-wins-mbarara-open-woodball-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/youthtimes.news\/index.php\/2025\/11\/13\/kampala-international-university-wins-mbarara-open-woodball-championship\/","title":{"rendered":"Kampala International University Wins Mbarara Open Woodball Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>KIU, Western Campus<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; Kampala International University (KIU) men\u2019s woodball team delivered a stunning performance to clinch gold at the 2025 Western Uganda Woodball Open Championship, held Saturday, Nov. 8, at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The KIU women\u2019s team also put up a strong showing, earning a bronze medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Captained by Deus Arinaitwe, the men\u2019s team featured Brian Gwaaka, Bridge Kwijuka, Brave Mwesigye, Joel Munyendo, Ronald Tumukunde and Tonny Sekyeene.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The women\u2019s team, led by Lauryn Vanetta Nasinyama, included Eunice Atim, Shakira Naguddi, Mary Namara, Carol Nasaazi and Angellah Kabengano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great feeling, especially when you defy the odds like we did. No one gave us a chance to win the tournament,\u201d said Arinaitwe, the men\u2019s team captain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe victory was a reward for the intensive training we\u2019ve had since the year began \u2014 and this is just the beginning of what we intend to achieve before the year ends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tournament attracted 16 teams, including top universities such as Makerere University, Ndejje University, Kampala University, Mountains of the Moon University and Uganda Christian University (UCU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since finishing 11th at the Eastern Africa University Games in Kenya last year, KIU\u2019s sports department has intensified training and strengthened its teams across various disciplines in preparation for the National University Games scheduled for December at Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The woodball team\u2019s victory in Mbarara is seen as a testament to those efforts and a sign of renewed determination heading into the national competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KIU, Western Campus&nbsp;&#8211; Kampala International University (KIU) men\u2019s woodball team delivered a stunning performance to clinch gold at the 2025 Western Uganda Woodball Open Championship, held Saturday, Nov. 8, at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).
